The organizers have confirmed that the 24th edition of the Dubai Marathon is set to take place on January 12, 2025, as announced on Monday. Under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council, this event, known as the oldest and fastest marathon in the Middle East, will once again offer three distinctive races: 4km, 10km, and the iconic 42.195km.
This announcement follows the recent triumph of Ethiopian debutants, Addisu Gobena and Tigist Ketema, who claimed victory with impressive times of 2:05:01 and 2:16:07, respectively. Gobena’s first marathon win at the age of 19 and Ketema’s groundbreaking debut, setting the fastest women’s debut marathon time ever and ranking as the eighth fastest woman in history, added remarkable moments to the marathon’s history.
“The results from last weekend are in line with the high standards we have come to expect from the Dubai Marathon,” remarked Saeed Hareb, the Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council. He highlighted the allure of the event for young runners seeking recognition, owing to the event’s hospitality and the modern, fast, and flat roads conducive to achieving swift times.
Looking ahead to the 2025 edition, Race Director Peter Connerton expressed gratitude for the early announcement of the date and acknowledged the steadfast support of the Dubai Sports Council. Connerton is determined to assemble another elite field of runners while ensuring an engaging platform for the thousands of participants in all three races.
“With Dubai firmly established as a world-class venue for marathon running, the race has garnered a global audience through television and online platforms. Yet, we remain ambitious and, with the ongoing support of the Dubai Sports Council, aim to achieve even greater milestones in the future,” Connerton emphasized.
