Set at the base of Barsha Heights’ Byblos Hotel, Crown & Lion has been all football, all the time since first swinging open the doors – incidentally, long before the neighbourhood was anywhere near finished building. But that didn’t stop an army of locals making the place their regular.
And they’re still there, propping up the bar and reserving the best tables. Arrive early for the greatest chance of beating them to the prime seats in the house.
With screens wallpapering almost every conceivable, face-able vertical surface, if it’s on telly, it’s on in the Crown & Lion.
Drinks deals are available daily, from an ever-changing Dhs25 pint option (or two) to a lengthy happy hour, via a longstanding, excellent-value Dhs65 lunch deal.
On the subject of food, come hungry, or come ready to take your leftovers with you. Think homemade pies, think doorstopper sandwiches, think Texan-pleasing ribs. But the jewel in the Crown & Lion’s culinary headgear is a phenomenally generous roast dinner, on which you’ll also find deals every Saturday and Sunday.
This pub’s regulars know all this and then some. There’s a reason why so many of them have been coming back since the doors first swung open.
