Hattem Mattar to open The Farm / House at Souk Madinat Jumeirah

Up to 50% rise in Dubai villa sales seen in Q4

Expect monthly hip-hop barbecue parties and tasty eats

Hattem Mattar will open a brand-new, licensed rooftop barbecue joint called The Farm / House at Souk Madinat Jumeirah in December.

Mattar, of The Mattar Farm and Local Fire by The Mattar Farm fame, is widely heralded as the Middle East’s premier pitmaster and commands a legion of fans thanks to his outrageously good briskets, pastrami and barbecuing expertise.

His latest project, a solo venture, will see The Farm / House pop up in the space formerly occupied by Segreto Restaurant and Bar until May 2022 – and it sounds mightily tasty.

Mattar says the al fresco barbecue spot will welcome “guys in snapbacks and people in suits” all the same, with a “no gimmicks, no pretention” sign hanging figuratively over the door.

Mattar said: “This is going to be the kind of tableside barbecue experience that’s never been done before in the UAE.

“We’re going to be using the same high-quality ingredients and harnessing the same art and process that the Mattar Farm is known for – but this is not going to be the kind of barbecue you see at a regular smokehouse.”

The entire menu is going to be cooked using ‘live fire’, something Mattar says will make every dining experience totally unique.

He said: “When you buy a shirt, and wear it, you get to wear and tear, you know someone has made that shirt and you know it’s yours and yours only.

“When we cook with live fire, every order will have nuances from so many things; the weather that day, the wood that was used etc. All of it will be particular to that dish and will be a unique experience for the person it was made for.”

And the commander of carnivores has even promised to weave some vegan eats into his menu for the very first time – though he’s keeping his cards close to his apron on that for the time being.

Fans of Mattar’s work will also get the chance to create their own fiery creations at home, with a concept store selling actual custom-built barbecue pits, rubs, spices, aprons and even will have a limited run of his apron-mounted knives.

Shisha will be available as live DJs spin the decks, and you can be sure we’ll be rocking up with our bib on for the monthly hip-hop barbecue parties.

Stay tuned to Time Out for the first look just as soon as those smokers are blazing.

We can’t wait.

Opening Dec 2021.
