Carlow Woman Fighting Hard To Recover After Two-Story Fall From Yacht In Dubai

Expo 2020 Dubai: Swiss innovation combats waste and strives for easier car parking

Natasha ‘Tasha’ Keane, a young woman from Carlow, Ireland, is in the fight of her life after suffering severe injuries from a fall off a yacht in Dubai. The accident occurred while she was attending a friend’s birthday party, where she lost her balance and fell two stories into the water below. Tasha, who is in her early 20s, has been living and working in the UAE for the past year.

The fall resulted in a severe head injury and lacerations to her liver, requiring immediate hospitalization. According to her sister, Róisín Keane, Tasha was barefoot at the time of the accident, which contributed to her losing balance and falling headfirst into the water, causing her to be concussed. Fortunately, a lifeguard named Benjamin witnessed the incident and quickly dove into the water to save her from drowning.

Róisín shared details of the harrowing experience on local radio station KCLR96FM, saying, “You hear of these freak accidents happening, but you never think it’s going to happen to anyone you know, never mind your younger sister. She’s in hospital now and unable to move.” She described the scene on the yacht as chaotic, with three other people helping to bring Tasha back on deck amidst a significant amount of blood.

Tasha’s injuries were severe, requiring 14 stitches in her head, and she lost a considerable amount of blood. The impact of the fall also caused lacerations to her liver. “They’re just monitoring her and still don’t know what’s going to happen, but she’s not paralyzed or brain dead and is able to talk, thank God,” Róisín explained.

With mounting medical bills, Róisín has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of Tasha’s care. “Tasha is fighting hard to recover. She is currently being monitored. Tasha is a strong and vibrant person. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Our family is doing everything we can, but we need your help to ensure Tasha gets the care she needs,” Róisín pleaded.

As of now, the campaign has raised more than €15,000 towards a €20,000 target. The funds will go towards ensuring Tasha receives the necessary medical treatment. Róisín hopes to fly to Dubai to be with her sister, as it will be several weeks before Tasha is stable enough to travel.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has acknowledged the incident and is prepared to offer consular assistance if needed.

This tragic event has rallied the community, both in Carlow and beyond, highlighting the importance of support and solidarity in times of unexpected crises. As Tasha continues her recovery journey, her family and friends remain hopeful and grateful for the outpouring of support from all those who have contributed to the campaign.
