In a harrowing case, the Dubai Criminal Court has handed down a death sentence to an Arab man convicted of premeditatedly murdering his European girlfriend.
The tragic incident unfolded in July 2020 when the victim sought to end the relationship due to her involvement with another person. Driven by a vengeful motive, the young man meticulously planned the murder, closely monitoring his ex-girlfriend’s movements following their breakup. 
The gruesome crime transpired as he gained access to her residence, unleashing a horrifying attack by slashing her neck and tearing her entrails apart. The lifeless body was discovered by a vigilant security guard responding to reports of a disturbance on the building’s seventh floor.
During the subsequent investigation, the security guard testified to finding blood near the stairs and attempting to access the scene through the stairwell, albeit unsuccessfully. Eventually entering from another floor, he stumbled upon the victim lying in a pool of blood.
Prompted by the security guard’s discovery, the police swiftly initiated an investigation into the heinous crime, meticulously collecting evidence from the crime scene.
The motives behind the killing became apparent through the defendant’s capture and subsequent confession. The defendant admitted to being in a romantic relationship with the victim since 2017 but became incensed upon discovering her interactions with others on a social media platform. Despite the victim expressing her intention to end the relationship, the defendant’s refusal fueled his relentless pursuit.
Having previously fled the country to escape the defendant’s threats and harassment, the victim returned to Dubai after two years to resume her work. This reunion led to a confrontation, exacerbated by the victim’s request to end the association and her repayment of a loan borrowed from the defendant.
The defendant’s attempts at reconciliation were met with resistance, culminating in heated arguments and further tension. On the fateful day, unable to reach the victim, the defendant, consumed by anger and revenge, armed himself with a knife and other tools to carry out his sinister plan. A violent confrontation ensued outside her apartment, resulting in the victim’s tragic demise on the staircase.
Initially fleeing the scene, the defendant was discovered by a security guard and another witness upon his return. Despite managing a temporary escape, he was eventually apprehended near a shopping mall in another emirate.
The Dubai Criminal Court, in its ruling, found the defendant guilty of deliberate murder, citing his meticulous preparation with an array of tools. The court highlighted his monitoring of the victim’s movements, the ambush, and the horrific, prolonged attack that led to her death. The severity and brutality of his actions prompted the court to issue a death sentence as a consequence of the deliberate nature of the crime.
