South Africa’s Best Business People To Look Out For In 2023

Generational Wealth Education has released its list of the South Africa business people to watch out for in 2023, showing which business leaders have had enormous impact on the country, and the world with potential to grow even more over the years.

The criteria used to determine the list looked at how the listed individuals influenced the country and the international business community, innovated in their field, created jobs, and overcame challenges and obstacles.

Lets take a look at the list:

Richard Maponya

Despite the many obstacles that he faced during the apartheid era, Richard Mapony was still able to successfully establish several businesses in the area.

He recently helped to develop Maponya Mall, which is one of the largest shopping centers in the country.

Pam Golding

In 1976, Pam Golding established Pam Golding Properties, which became the largest real estate agency in South Africa. She has since gone on to transform the country’s luxury residential market.

Adrian Gore

In 1992, Adrian Gore established Discovery Health, which became one of the leading health insurance companies in South Africa. His company has since introduced various innovative products.

Several insurance companies in other countries have started to copy the Discovery model. This has resulted in Discovery products being successful in these regions.

Matome Sefalafala

Matome is a well established business leader who owns a portfolio of companies in the waste management, protection services, mineral resources,construction, medical and the entertainment industry.

Matome is seen as a role model to a lot of South Africans as he is a humanitarian where he donates large sums of money to various causes all around the world.

Matome has spoken to global platforms like Ted and GWE just to name a few.

Patrice Motsepe

After a successful career as a lawyer at Bowman Gilfillan, Motsepe founded ARM (African Rainbow Minerals) in 1997 and turned it into one of the largest mining and mineral groups in the world.

Since then, he has diversified into other industries. He is now regarded as one of the South Africa’s richest individuals. His wealth has exceeded R1.3 billion.

In December 2017 he invested in a $1-billion fund as part of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, launched by Bill Gates.

Douw Steyn

Douw Steyn founded Auto General Insurance in 1985 and turned it into one of the largest insurance companies in South Africa. He has since started similarly successful businesses in the UK (Compare the Market, Budget Insurance).He recently helped to develop Steyn City in Johannesburg, which is one of the most impressive residential estates in the world.

Sashin Govender

Sashin Govender is an innovative and disruptive entrepreneur, investor, one of themost sought after networkers, multiple times best selling author,world-renowned speaker, and philanthropist. He is known forhis success in business, self-development, inspirational seminars,and self-help podcasts, books and programs.

Anton Rupert

Dr. Anton Rupert founded the Rembrandt Group in the 1940s. After initially focusing on the tobacco industry (Peter Stuyvesant), his company soon moved into industrials and luxury goods. Rembrandt has since been split into Remgro (an investment company with financial, mining and industrial interests) and Richemont (a Swiss-based luxury goods group).Rupert was also a founding member of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) in the 1960s. His son Johan has since turned Richemont into one of the largest luxury goods companies in the world.
