Amir Khan, the former world boxing champion, has inaugurated a luxurious wedding venue named “The Balmayna” in Bolton, situated in close proximity to a car wash and an area known for fly-tipping.
“The Balmayna,” an opulent structure as reported by the Daily Mail, features remarkable elements such as glass walls, an indoor waterfall, palm trees, lush greenery, and floral arrangements. Despite these lavish attributes, the venue is currently surrounded by a construction site and positioned between two car washes. The official website promotes a “royalty experience” and promises to deliver “a touch of magnificence and excellence in every celebration,” with its grand opening scheduled for February.
However, the juxtaposition of the upscale venue with its surroundings has drawn criticism from locals. One resident expressed their discontent on Instagram, describing it as an “absolute eyesore” and “a blot on the landscape.” They further lamented the perceived lack of class and disparity between the actual appearance and the portrayed image.
Amir Khan, 37, has been involved in the development of “The Balmayna,” which translates to “enamelled” in Arabic, since 2013. Despite the ongoing construction and incomplete surroundings, the venue is already accepting reservations for events.
Amir Khan, who married Faryal Makhdoom in 2013 and later split in 2017, accused heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua of having an affair with his wife in the same year. However, the couple has since reconciled, even co-starring in the BBC TV show “Meet the Khans.”
The official Instagram page for Balmayna announced the acceptance of reservations with a message stating, “With immense joy, the wait is nearly over! We will soon unveil the grand opening of @thebalmayna, Bolton’s newest wedding haven. A splendid project between Excellency Midlands and Amir Khan, where elegance seamlessly meets excellence.”
