This weekend, Dubai’s bustling main artery, Sheikh Zayed Road, is slated for temporary closure to accommodate the emirate’s most extensive community cycling event, the Dubai Ride.
In the early hours of Sunday, November 12, Sheikh Zayed Road will be cordoned off, transforming into a dedicated cycling track for the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge cycling extravaganza. The Dubai Ride is scheduled to take place between 6.15 am and 8.15 am, exclusively for participants in the event. This means that motor vehicles will not be permitted on this route during the event’s duration.
The cycling adventure commences at the Dubai World Trade Centre and stretches all the way to Safa Park before retracing the path back. This constitutes the longer of the two route options available to cyclists. The shorter 4km route traces Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and passes by iconic landmarks such as Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera, and the majestic Burj Khalifa. Therefore, road closures are expected on these routes to facilitate the cycling event.
While the Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has not yet disclosed alternative routes or the anticipated reopening time for the roads, last year, the road closures began at 4 am and concluded at 9 am.
If you’re enthusiastic about embarking on an exhilarating bike ride, it’s time to gear up, dust off your bicycle, and register for the event at dubairide.com.
Upon successful registration, you’ll be invited to collect your bibs from Run and Ride Central, conveniently located at One Central. This venue serves as the ultimate destination for clubs, brands, and enthusiasts seeking to immerse themselves in the realms of running and cycling.
