Dubai Municipality has introduced an updated sewerage fee structure set to roll out from 2025, with charges initially at 1.5 fils per gallon. The rates will incrementally increase over the following years, rising to 2 fils per gallon in 2026 and reaching 2.8 fils per gallon by 2027.
The new tariffs will apply to existing sewerage customers within Dubai Municipality-managed areas, as confirmed by the Dubai Government Media Office. This adjustment comes as part of Dubai’s ongoing infrastructure expansion to support its rapid population growth and dynamic economic development. According to projections, Dubai’s population could reach 7.8 million by 2040 as it strengthens its position as a global hub for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Despite the increase, the media office highlighted that the new tariff remains below the global average for cities with similar economic profiles. The primary goal of the adjustment is to encourage water conservation and promote sustainable practices across the emirate. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of building a resilient, future-ready urban infrastructure that supports its expanding population and preserves essential resources.
In 2015, Dubai introduced an initial sewerage fee of 1 fil per gallon for properties connected to the public sewerage network or managed private systems, making this the first increase since that time.
