Dubai Airshow will take flight later today, with an impressive programme of aeronautical acrobats set to dominate the skies above Al Maktoum International Airport.

We’re used to seeing commercial aircraft ferrying people in and out of our great city, but winged machines will be spicing things up over five days of gravity-defying stunts and displays.

Expect to see some of the world’s bravest mavericks (and the odd Goose, we’re sure) in the cockpit of supersonic jets.

Among the squadrons taking to the skies are the UAE Air Force aerobatic display team, Al Fursan; Russian Knights of the Russian Air Force; Surya Kiran, the aerobatics demonstration team of the Indian Air Force; Sarang, the helicopter air display team of the Indian Air Force; and the Saudi Falcons, a BAE Hawk-equipped Royal Saudi Air Force aerobatic team.

The annual event has been running since 1989, and this year will bring together more than 370 new exhibitors from nearly 150 countries.

So, what exactly is on the bill?

One of the biggest highlights of the show will be the static park and flying display, which will feature more than 175 of the world’s most advanced aircraft on the ground and in the air.

This year, Dubai Airshow has also introduced free-to-attend conferences featuring more than 250 industry experts, who will be providing more than 50 hours of invaluable insights and trends across nine tracks including sustainability, technology and space.

And of course, Dubai Airshow 2021 will have a major focus on technology, providing a dedicated platform for showcasing the latest emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, cybersecurity and automation.

Jet, set, go.
