Dubai Police recently recognized the heroic efforts of Issa Muhammad Al Falasi, a 63-year-old Emirati sailor, for his remarkable act of saving eight lives and recovering the bodies of two individuals. Al Falasi’s valiant rescue mission unfolded during a fishing trip when a boat carrying six Indians and two Pakistanis overturned, as reported by Gulf News on January 15.
Major General Ahmed Mohammed Rafie, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Community Happiness and Logistics Affairs, honored Al Falasi in accordance with the directives of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police. This acknowledgment was a tribute to Al Falasi’s prompt and selfless response to the perilous situation.
Maj Gen Rafie highlighted that Al Falasi’s actions symbolize the unwavering commitment of Emirati citizens to extend support, especially in challenging circumstances. Al Falasi, expressing gratitude for the recognition from Dubai Police, emphasized that his actions were driven by a sense of humanitarian duty and his dedication as a UAE citizen to assist those in need. He took the opportunity to advise individuals planning fishing trips or outings to prioritize safety by adhering to necessary precautions.
The incident unfolded when Al Falasi, on his fishing trip, noticed a person being carried by the waves at a distance. Acting without hesitation, he swiftly approached the man and discovered that there were nine more individuals aboard the overturned boat in need of assistance. Despite his best efforts, Al Falasi was able to save eight fishermen, but sadly, two individuals had already drowned before he could reach them. Al Falasi, displaying immense courage, also retrieved the bodies of the unfortunate victims from the sea.
