Have you observed a smoother flow of traffic recently? We certainly have, thanks to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which has undertaken various projects under the Quick Traffic Improvements Plan. The objective is to minimize bottlenecks and disruptions for road users, and these ongoing upgrades have already made a significant impact.
The Quick Traffic Improvements Plan, scheduled for 2023-2024, aims to implement 45 traffic solutions across different locations in the emirate, with 14 already completed last year. The results so far have led to a 50 percent reduction in travel time in upgraded areas.
One notable upgrade involved the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Centre Street towards Al Khail Road. By increasing the exit’s capacity from one lane to two, the traffic flow improved, reducing travel time from the Business Bay area to Financial Centre Street from five minutes to an impressive 60 seconds.
Additional enhancements include the expansion of lanes on Al Fay Street and the utilization of existing bridges to alleviate congestion, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in travel time for both entering and exiting the Dubai Production District and Dubai Sports City District.
In Dubai Marina, the RTA implemented a free exit from Al Saba Street towards Garn Al Sabkha Street, leading to a 60 percent decrease in travel time. Furthermore, expansions and dedicated U-turns were introduced at key intersections, such as the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Umm Suqeim Street, reducing travel time from Al Barsha to Umm Suqeim Street to just 5 minutes.
Noteworthy improvements were made to the exit from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing, expanding it from one lane to three and introducing traffic lights for smoother movement, eliminating long queues on Al Rebat Street.
The strategic decision-making process for road upgrades involves comprehensive monitoring, utilizing sources such as traffic studies, control centers, public suggestions and complaints, and on-site monitoring by RTA teams. According to Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, the enhancements will continue throughout 2024, targeting 31 sites across the emirate, including major areas like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Baker Al Siddique Street, Al Rebat Street, Al Khail Road, and Al Meydan Street.
As the RTA continues its efforts, we can anticipate more positive changes in Dubai’s traffic landscape. The commitment to ongoing improvements ensures a more efficient and streamlined experience for all road users.
